Expectations & Requirements of Membership:
* For 2020-2021, we will only have new member selection for seniors in the fall. We will then have a second round of selection for sophomores and juniors 2nd semester.
1. New Member selection begins in the fall for sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have completed a full school year at Salem High School. In October, potential new members are issued interest packets based on the GPA requirement (3.600), discipline records, and a faculty approval process. Interest packets are to be returned, completed and signed, in person to a sponsor by the stated date and time.
2. Members must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.600. Members falling below this requirement will be placed on academic probation for one semester. A failure to maintain the minimum GPA requirement for two semesters will result in referral to the Faculty Advisory Council for dismissal.
3. Membership dues of $10 are paid yearly. These cover induction costs, membership to the national organization, and support of local service activities.
4. Each year, members are required to complete 20 hours of individual community service and report fulfillment of this requirement, on the appropriate form, to the sponsors by the stated deadline in early May.
5. Each year, members are required to participate in an SHS Chapter organized group service project. Some of the opportunities include the SHS Pre-pay Days in August, a Blood Drive, Read Across America Day in March, and the Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament in May.
6. Members are required to attend all chapter meetings and functions (including induction ceremonies). Chapter meetings are held at 7:30 am in the SHS auditorium. Prior approval must be obtained for any planned absence from a meeting (where you later attended school the same day). A written excuse for any absence (where you were also absent from school) must be presented to the sponsor within 48 hours of the meeting.
7. Members are requested to actively seek information about chapter activities by utilizing the SHS Chapter Google Calendar and website, signing up to receive Remind messages via text/email, and listening to school announcements.
8. Meeting deadlines is expected.
9. Members are expected to demonstrate outstanding character and citizenship. This includes following all laws, school regulations, rules set forth in the school code of conduct and computer system use agreement, and the honor code. Violations of any of these could result in any of the following: conferences, written warnings, probationary status, or immediate consideration for dismissal.
